Wilson Jeter

Wilson Sterling Jeter, a beloved son, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on

January 7, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on February 3, 1942, in

Memphis, Tennessee, to Mildred Moore and Bill Jeter. Wilson’s adventurous spirit and larger-than-life personality touched everyone he met, and his stories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Wilson graduated from Messick High School in June 1961 and went on to earn an

Associate of Business from Northwest Mississippi Junior College in January 1964. He then completed his Bachelor of Business at The University of Mississippi in January 1967. A sports enthusiast, he loved following high school and college sports, especially cheering for the Ole Miss Rebels. In his youth, he shined as an athlete himself, excelling in basketball and baseball, and later shared his passion for the game by officiating high school and college basketball for over 20 years. His commitment to youth sports extended to his role as the Madison-Ridgeland Youth member during their early years

Wilson was known for his quick wit, love of practical jokes, and his knack for storytelling, effortlessly weaving tales that entertained and connected people. His unconditional love for his three sons—Marcus, Douglas, and Daniel—as well as his grandchildren, shone brightly in everything he did. He also had a soft spot for helping others and often found joy in lending a hand whenever he could.

A man of many interests, Wilson Loved pheasant and duck hunting whether they were flying or not and some weren’t. Loved to fish but only if the fishing was hot. He also had a passion for coin collecting which he enjoyed very much.

Professionally, Wilson made a lasting impact in the furniture industry. He worked as a Furniture Manufacturer's Representative for over 50 years, representing various companies before retiring from Harden Manufacturing in 2014.

He held several distinguished leadership roles, including President of the Mississippi Home Furnishings Representatives Association and Governor of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association.

Wilson is survived by his three sons: Marcus Jeter (and daughter-in-law Cealia Dickerson) of Canton, MS; Douglas Scott Jeter of Pensacola, FL; and Daniel Shane Jeter (and wife DeAnna) of Baton Rouge, LA. He was also a proud grandfather to Trenton Sterling Jeter, Leland Joseph Jeter, and Swayze Caroline Jeter.
