"Dub be good."
W.C. "Dub" Vaughn, age 75, of Jackson, MS passed away August 4th, 2023. He was born September 7, 1947 in Water Valley, MS. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lu Vaughn, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathryn Borer (Luke) and Meagan Backes (Jayson), and his grandsons William Borer, Henry Borer and Elijah Backes. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Mitchell, and his brother, Pete Vaughn (Darnell). His death was preceded by his parents Ruel and Cathryn Vaughn.
As a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army, W.C. developed a love for travel and adventure. He was a true patriot who loved his country. He loved refinishing furniture, hunting for a bargain, cooking for his loved ones and his church, and following his stock equity and crypto currency investments. He thrived as a real estate broker and investor for over 40 years in Jackson, MS, mentoring several newcomers to the business. He worked hard until the day that he died, having recently purchased a cottage in Water Valley to spend his last years in his hometown.
He loved "his girls." His last words to his wife as she laid her cold hands on him to get warm were, "I have got to keep my girls warm." And her last words to him were, "I love you, Dub." As a grandfather he went by Papa Dub. Being a grandfather meant the world to him. He finally got some boys. He loved taking them for adventures in the woods and teaching them lessons he learned over the course of his life. He loved planning yearly family trips to Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, cruises and more. He had a mischievous side that kept everyone both on their toes and laughing. Over the course of their marriage his wife coined a phrase for him--"Dub be good."
For all of his Water Valley and North Mississippi friends, a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 8th at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.
Later in September a Celebration of Life will be planned and held in the Jackson, Mississippi metro area.
