Taylor Davis Litten, formerly of Petal, passed away on his family’s farm on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Those closest to him called him GussGuss, a nickname given to him by a childhood friend that stuck, and one that he grew to embrace and prefer.
Taylor was raised in Petal, MS, and attended schools in Petal School District.
He grew up attending the University of Southern Mississippi’s Golden Eagle home football games with his family, where he was able to learn and grow to appreciate the art of a tailgate. His professional team of choice was the Oakland Raiders. He was an avid gamer and reader; full of knowledge about the latest releases for movies and video games and enjoyed sharing both his knowledge and collections with family and friends.
At the time of his passing, Taylor was employed as a factory worker by Ashley Furniture Industries. He is survived by his parents, Ralph and Connie Litten, Water Valley (formerly of Petal and Grenada, MS), and his sisters Meghan Marae’ Litten, Boston, MA, and Madison Mackenzie Litten, Water Valley, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ralph and Ruth Litten, and Bryant Harbin, all of Grenada; his great-grandparents Robert and Billie Rotenberry, Coffeeville and by his beloved labradors, Precious Jewel Litten and Lucy Belle Litten.
Taylor will be greatly missed by both his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness and loyalty. He was most happy making those around him laugh. His distinctive laugh is one that will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 2nd for visitation at 12PM followed by a 2PM service led by his youth minister and later pastor, Rev. Ben Skipper, of Carterville Baptist Church (Petal). Please, no suits and ties.
In lieu of flowers the family request for a donation to be made in Taylor’s name to the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation or The University of Mississippi’s The William Magee Center for Wellness Education. The center opened in September with the purpose of becoming a national model for substance misuse prevention, support, and research in a collegiate environment. Donors can mail a check, with the center’s name in the memo line, to the University of Mississippi Foundation, 406 University Ave., Oxford, MS 38655; or give online at
