Sammie Lee Rucker was born to Willie and Francis Rucker on July 22, 1956 in Independence, Ms. He was born one of sixteen children. He departed this earth on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Sammie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Church, Independence MS. He later in life joined Pleasant Green M B Church and remained a member until his death.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Cathy (Hervey) Rucker, April 1, 1975. She remained the “apple of his eye” for 47 years.
“Paw Paw” as his children and called him, was a kind and loving father. He was a very hard working man who loved helping others. He would work from “sun up to sun down”. When he wasn't working, Sammie, also known as “slick”, enjoyed spending time with his family. He would travel frequently with his wife, children, and grandchildren, which gave him the utmost joy. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was theirs as well.
He was loved by his family and friends. He will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Cathy Rucker; children, Oscar Campbell of Davenport IA, Sholunda (Chad) Hall of Promfret, MD, Brandy Rucker of Atlanta GA, Bridgett (Lakenya) Harris of Memphis, TN, Devontae Rucker of Atlanta GA, and Kedrick Booker of Coffeville, MS; His grandchildren, Brandon, Kirsten, Jabriel, Gabrielle, Cameron, Paxton, Savannah, Ajaha, Jayceon, and Bre’Asia; Two god children whom he helped raise, Candice Neely and Marlando Buford; His siblings, Army Jean (West) Bradford of Memphis, TN, Connie (Rodney) Irby of Coldwater, MS, Vonnis Rucker Benson of Memphis TN, Mary Pace of Peoria Illinois, Marthra Snipes of Memphis, TN., Jack Rucker of Coldwater, MS, Willie B. Rucker of Marshall County, MS., Sherman Rucker of Coldwater, MS, Willie Rucker, Jr. of Memphis TN, Curtis Rucker of Coldwater, MS, and Clarence Willis of Detroit, MI. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Francis Rucker, his brothers- Albert, Elbert, and Jerry Rucker, and his mother in law, Macie Lee Hervey
Arrangements: Visitation is planned for Friday, October 21, 2022, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 22, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks.
