Rozella Herrick Van Winkle, age 96, of Southaven, MS died Monday, November 18, 2019 at her home. She was born December 9, 1922 in Nekoosa Wisconsin to the late Perry and Julia (Horton) Herrick. She began her working career at the old Rice-Stix factory, later becoming Big Yank, and and finished by retiring from Holley Carburetor. She had a variety of talents, including making clothes for her family, making her renowned jellies, biscuits, and pot-roast for her grandchildren. She was very fond of reading, poetry, and music.
Visitation is planned for Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will begin at 10:00 AM Friday, November 22, 2019 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Larry Kilgore officiating. Interment will be in Long Branch Cemetery with Valley Van Winkle, Brody Van Winkle, Sam Van Winkle, George Sheldon, Curt Franklin, and Brandon Raines serving as pallbearers.
“Rose” is survived by one son, Brad Van Winkle (Karen) of Water Valley, MS; two daughters, Jackie Myrick (Andy) of Southaven, MS, and Betty Kilgore (Larry) of Crowder, MS; two brothers, Dean Herrick of Winslow, AR, and Varion Herrick of Grimes, IA; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, “Rip” Van Winkle; two brothers, Milo and Walter Herrick; and one sister, Cora Herrick.
