Mable Jones Freeman, beloved mother and grandmother at the graceful age of 85, slept away from this life at her home in Water Valley, MS on October 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the eldest born to the late McKenzie and Mattie Lou Jones on August 8, 1933 in Victoria, MS. She united in holy matrimony to her dear husband Claude Lee Freeman, Jr. on March 11, 1950, whom she adored with all of her.
Settling her family in Water Valley, MS, she began working for Mott’s Manufacturing from which she retired after 32 years of service. She was a longtime member of Chapel Hill M.B. Church. As a humble Christian woman, she kept her children and grandchildren in a church-based upbringing, rooted in the Lord. She served as a faithful and active member of the Mother Board which she held proudly until her health began to decline. Even after, she inquired about services every Sunday. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, crafting, and passing along her words of wisdom. Her straight-forward truthfulness and her delightful sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Greater Sanders Chapel in Water Valley, MS with Rev. Jerome Battle officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time with burial in Oak Ridge City Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Martha Crawford of Oxford, MS; Patricia Ann George (Hubert) of Shreveport, LA, and Gloria Ann Freeman of Water Valley, MS; seven sisters, Nettie B. Rankin (Thurman) of Memphis, TN; Hessie Richmond (Archie), Rutha Mae Norman, Beauty B. Young (Willie), Lillian Stevenson (Terry), Bulah DeBerry (Lee), and Gwendolyn Jones, all of Victoria, MS; six grandchildren, Derrick Crawford, Chandra Crawford, Audrey Pegues (Hersie), Angela Freeman-Thomas (Tommy), Krystl Ortiz (Alan), and Kristi Jones (Akeem); eleven great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. She also leaves a special longtime friend, Percy Lee Rogers and a special caregiver, Anita Rockette.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 beautiful years, Claude Lee Freeman, Jr; a son, Oscar Freeman; a sister, Tressie Rayford; and a brother, Albert Jones.
