Lloyd Edward Defer, age 81, of Water Valley, MS died peacefully Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. He was born January 23, 1938 in Middleton, TN to the late Troy and Lou (Hisaw) Defer and worked his entire career in the law enforcement field spending six and a half years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and twenty years as the Yalobusha County Sheriff. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were very special to him.
Lloyd was member of Camp Ground Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and was Sunday School Director, both for 37 years. Lloyd had also achieved some other important accomplishments which included receiving the Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Award which is given to a Rotarian that has made an outstanding contribution to the community as well as being a 32nd degree mason.
Visitation is planned for Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Camp Ground Baptist Church in Water Valley from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will follow at 1:00 PM with Bro. Jerry King officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with Skyler Defer, Randy Simmons, Joe Black, Billy Jones, Chuck Schwinn and Michael Calahand serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Melton, Gerald Bailey and all the Deacons of Camp Ground Baptist Church.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Defer; three sons, “Bubba” Defer (Stephanie), Michael Defer (Gena) and Tommy Defer (Stacie) all of Water Valley, MS; as well as 2 grandchildren.
