UPDATE -- K-9 Deputy Yoda, born May 17, 2017, passed away at his home unexpectedly from health complications on October 3, 2022. K-9 Deputy Yoda began his career with Sgt Taylor Byford on February 1, 2019. He was certified by Drug Beat as a dual-purpose patrol dog. K-9 Deputy Yoda served the people of Yalobusha County for over 3 years and was credited for over 50 arrests of drug offenders and violent criminals. K-9 Deputy Yoda was certified in Narcotics Detection and Apprehension. K-9 Deputy Yoda was the first K-9 Deputy for Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department and was purchased with donated funds. When K-9 Deputy Yoda was off duty, and not involved in training, you would see him visiting special events, schools, and churches throughout Yalobusha County. He absolutely loved attention from children, and even adults young at heart. Yoda was injured in the fall of 2019 during the tracking/apprehension of an offender which resulted in a knee replacement. Yoda continued having hip and knee issues and was ultimately placed on leave in May awaiting medical retirement. K-9 Deputy Yoda was a vital part of our department’s family and loved serving the citizens of Yalobusha County.
