Catherine Irene Alexander, age 90, of Water Valley, MS died peacefully Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Yalobusha County Nursing Home. She was born March 27, 1928 in Natchez, MS. to the late Albert and Annie Raper Oakes. Irene worked as an office clerk for Yalobusha General Hospital as well as many of the doctors at the time. Afterwards she worked many years as the Yalobusha Co. W.I.C. Manager. Irene was a member of the Pink Ladies, Water Valley Garden Club, Pine Valley Homemakers Club and, at one time, had been a 4-H mom. She enjoyed sewing and working in her flower garden. She was a member of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.

Visitation is planned for Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will be Monday November 5, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Dr. Shane Crawford and Bro. Harold Sprayberry officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Willie Pullen, Chris Pullen, Ron Hart, Bert Oakes, Skip Brasell, and Mike Dale serving as pallbearers.

Irene is survived by two daughters, Brenda Abernathy of Charlotte, NC and Kathy Pullen (Willie) of Water Valley, MS. ; one brother Bob Oakes of Johnson City, TN; five grandchildren, Chris Pullen, Kelley Hart, Jennifer Howard, Melanie Galloway, and Suzanne Monteith; thirteen great-grandchildren, Greyson Galloway, Arden Galloway, Rory Galloway, Beckett Galloway, Ryder Gallowoy, Katie Howard, Cole Howard,
Ava Grace Howard, Emerson Regan, Cohen Hart, Kenley Pullen, Carter Pullen and Sawyer Pullen.

Irene was preceded in death by, her husband John Alexander; four sisters, Mae Brasell, Frances Downer, Grace Dale, Dorothy Oakes; eight brothers, Jack Oakes Jr., James Oakes, Bub Oakes, Bill Oakes, Lewis Oakes, J.D. Oakes, Enlow Oakes and Alvin Oakes.
