Gene Garland Simpson

Gene Garland Simpson, age 92, of Water Valley, MS died Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home. He was born November 16, 1928 in Pine Valley, MS to the late Lewis and Dena Simpson. After graduating from school, Gene joined the United States Navy where he served our country for six years. After coming home, Gene went to work for, and ultimately retired from, the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He loved playing golf, fishing, square dancing with his beloved wife Jeanette, working in the yard, and traveling. He and Jeanette managed to travel to all 48 contiguous United States.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Gene is survived by one son, Gordon Simpson (Pam) of Oxford, MS; one daughter, Cindy Wright of Batesville, MS; six grandchildren, Hope, Bo, Drew, Will, Eric, Michael; and six great-grandchildren, Jagger, Willow, Bode, Hunter, Colin, and Owen.

As well as his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Jeanette Simpson.
