Emma Dora Gooch, age 74, of Water Valley, MS died Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was born June 10, 1945 in the Torrance community to the late Mack and Annie (Sanders) Clark. She spent her working career in the textile industry doing many different jobs at the Big Yank factory. She was involved in a vast array of activities during her life, that included being a troup leader in the Girl Scouts of America troop 00085, coaching girls youth league softball, playing women‘s league softball with Big Yank, and performing with award winning blues singer, Bobby Rush. After retirement, Emma Dora served others in our community by dedicating her time to the Meals on Wheels program and baby sitting. She loved fishing, gardening, and serving her church, Martin St. Church of Christ, where she was a faithful member, and had once taught Sunday School.
Public Visitation is planned for Saturday, November 30, 2019 in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 10:oo AM until 1:00 PM. Services will immediately follow in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Dexter Ross officiating. Interment will be in Martin Street Church of Christ Cemetery with Sherman Gooch, Jerimaine Gooch, George Woodard, Dd. Spearman, Jeffery Mayes, and Reginald Campbell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Woodard, Jacorie Woodard, Jabari Woodard, Jamarion Woodard, Kavon Barber, and Jordan Jay Woodard.
Emma Dora’s memory is cherished by one son, Michael Gooch (Annie); one daughter, Lenora Woodard (Greg), all of Water Valley; one brother, R.V. Adams (Carol); three sisters, Dora Lee Brown, Bertha Adams, and Patricia Cobble (Tony), all of Joliet, IL; six grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews,; 3 special cousins, Eva Cook, Martha Jenkins, Dorothy Sanders Thompson; and a special Aunt, Betty Ward
Along with her parents, Emma Dora was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Gooch, Jr.
