Dewitt Aden Spurgeon, age 67, of Oxford, MS died peacefully Monday, February 4, 2019 at his home. He was born March 3, 1951 in Kosciusko, MS to the late George and Mary Bell Spurgeon and worked as an Environmental Scientist for the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his dogs. He was member of West Ingomar Church of The Lord Jesus Christ.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Brother Glenn Jones presiding.
Dewitt is survived by his wife, Matsuko Smeltz Spurgeon; two step-daughters, Amanda Hoffner of Lehighton, PA, and Ashley Hoffner of Argentina; one brother, George Spurgeon (Thuan) of Tallahassee, FL; one step-sister, Dawn Bickell (David) of Houston, TX; one step-brother, Dean Mathis (Tina) of New Albany, MS; one brother-in-law, Michael Smeltz (Rachel) of Newport Richey, FL; as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dewitt was preceded in death by one step-son, Brian Hoffner II.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital.
