It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Scott Carter, a beloved son, husband, father, and cherished member of the Oakland community. David departed this life on January 5, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He was 50 years old.
David was born on November 25, 1973, in Memphis, TN, to James and Shirley Carter. From an early age, he exhibited a strong work ethic and a compassionate nature that would shape his life and leave an indelible mark on all those he encountered.
Throughout his life, David pursued various career paths, showcasing his versatility and dedication. He began as a cashier at one of the casinos in the delta, where his genuine warmth and friendly demeanor made patrons feel welcomed and valued. His hard work and ambition then led him to become a manager first at Dollar General and then Fred's Dollar store, where he proved himself as a capable and conscientious leader.
In his final years, David found fulfillment in his work as a quality technician at Solero. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence were greatly appreciated by his colleagues and superiors. David's unwavering dedication to his profession was a testament to his character.
But above all else, David's greatest joy in life came from his relationship with his adoring wife, Becky Carter. Their love story began with a simple act of kindness when David stopped to pick up a popsicle Becky had dropped. Little did they know, this chance encounter would blossom into a lifelong partnership. Forever grateful for the love they shared, David and Becky were united in marriage in 2009, building a life filled with love and cherished memories.
David's faith played an integral role throughout his life. He was a devoted member of the Hosanna Family Worship Center, where he served on the media team and was honored to be ordained as a minister. His unwavering commitment to his spiritual community and his willingness to spread love and compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Not only was David dedicated to his family and profession, but he also found solace and camaraderie as a member of the Iron Horse Crusaders CMA Chapter #1186 in Batesville, MS. Through serving this organization as chaplain and Vice-President, David formed cherished friendships and shared his passion for motorcycles, charity, and community service. David also enjoyed differing genres of music, playing the piano, riding motorcycles, and playing video games.
David's memory will forever be treasured by his dear father James Carter and his loving mother Shirley Carter. His legacy will continue through his beloved wife Becky Carter, who stood by his side through thick and thin, offering him unwavering love and support. David also leaves behind children, Koral Hogue (Jeremy), Ana Carter (Jesse Wilbanks); grandchildren, Jeret Hogue, Emmie Hogue, Dixie Hogue and Cable Hogue; one brother, Ricky Carter; one sister, Pamela Brast (Darren); his mother-in-law, Diane Spears; as well as numerous other family members.
Preceding him in death was his father-in-law, Bobby Spears.
