Crawford Calvin King, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, transitioned to his eternal home on January 9, 2024, at the age of 73. Born January 26, 1950, in Clarksdale, MS, to Crawford Calvin King, Sr. and Martha Sue Moore King. He was raised in Lambert, MS but he has lived in Oakland, MS for the last 36 years.
Calvin, ”Skip” to most that knew him, finished High School in 1968. He left high school for the Army. While in the Army he served as a UH 1 Helicopter Maintenance Instructor. He loved the Army and served his country proudly at Ft. Rucker’s in Alabama. After being honorably discharged in 1972, he would later meet and marry the love of his life, Ophelia Lee. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together. Together they raised their family of 6 in a Pentecostal home.
Skippy had many joys in life, but crappie fishing was his favorite. He loved to hunt as well. Skippy was also a Pentecostal preacher. He was always ready with a word from the Bible and encouragement that all things happen in God’s time. The greatest joy in his life was spending time with his loving wife Ophelia and all their children and grandchildren.
Crawford Calvin “Skippy” King is survived by his loving wife Ophelia Lee King of 50 years. Four sons; Terry Alvin King (Christy) of Oakland MS, Rev. Jerry Calvin King (Bj) of Dumas MS, Jonathan Edward King (Laurie) of Walls MS, Nathanael Glen King (Robin) of Houston, TX; two daughters Cindy Smith (Buddy) of Santa Fe, TX, and Charlotte Green (Terry) Oakland, MS. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Edward “Bubba” King (Frances) of Senatobia MS, and two sisters Cindy Horlick (Jeff) of Fayetteville, AR, and Jennifer Lynn Moore of Collierville, TN. He also has a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Skip is preceded in death by his daddy, Crawford Calvin King Sr., his momma, Martha Sue Moore King; his step-momma Adney King; one granddaughter Harley Claire King; and one brother Michael Jerome King.
Visitation is planned for Friday, January 12, 2024, at Camp Ground Baptist Church from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. Services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Gardens in Batesville.
