Coy Cooper Carpenter, Sr, age 82, of Oakland, MS died Friday, March 27, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Being the youngest of ten children, he was born August 28, 1937 in Water Valley to the late Vernie and Mary (Lee) Carpenter. Coy served our country in the United States Army, and later retried from Memphis Light Gas and Water. He was known to work hard at everything he set out to do which included the things he enjoyed doing. Coy enjoyed gardening and flower gardens, and woodworking. His specialty was building hope chests, which he built for each of his granddaughters. But his greatest joy, and love, was family especially the grand, and great-grand children.
A small family graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM in Oak Hill Cemetery on Wednesday April 1, 2020 with Brother Gene Kennedy officiating.
Coy is survived by two sons, Victor Carpenter (Diane) of Sledge, MS, Coy Carpenter, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL; four grandchildren and four great-grand children.
Along with his parents, Coy was preceded in death by all nine of his siblings.
