Billie Jean Mahan, age 82, of Water Valley, MS died peacefully Thursday, January 16, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 3, 1937 in Lafayette County to the late Hiram and Mary (Huckaby) Shepherd and worked first at Rice Stix, later becoming Big Yank, and retired after 38 years. She loved, first, anything and everything that concerned family, and a close second was serving her church, which she did up to when she fell ill. She also loved canning things from the garden that she and her late husband Ralph grew each year. Billie was also a faithful member of Friendship Baptist church, where she played piano for over forty years.
Visitation is planned for Sunday, January 19, 2020 in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Services will begin at 3:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Bill Forsyth officiating. Burial will be in Drivers Flat Cemetery with Josh Burrowes, Matt Burrowes, Wayne Burrowes, Scott Story, Bubba Reeves, and Michael Stevens serving as pallbearers.
Billie is survived by two sons, David Burrowes (Rhonda), Kenny Burrowes (Doris) all of Water Valley; nine grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Burrowes; her second husband, Ralph Mahan; two sons, Gary Burrowes and Dennis Burrowes; and one sister, Martha Caulder.
