Betty Baker “BB” Thomas, age 78, of Water Valley, MS passed from this world Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto County with her family by her side. Betty was born August 14, 1943, in Hinchcliff, MS, Quitman County to the union of Clifton Leroy Dyer, Sr. and Beatrice Maddox Dyer Hardin. She lived in Quitman County until age 8, then moved to Panola County where she went to school. “BB” worked a number of different jobs through the years at Holley Carburetor, Ram Tool, Big Yank, Mott‘s, and as Medicare Clerk at Yalobusha General, but truly loved being a caregiver. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church as well as member of the Pink Ladies, Iris Society, and the Garden Club where she served as president from 2007 - 2014. She loved working in her yard and planting flowers that she and Roger gathered from their travels. But above all else, she loved her family.
Visitation is planned for Sunday, September 26, 2021, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Freddie Moorman officiating. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery.
“BB” is survived by her husband of over twenty-five years, Charles Roger Thomas; two sons, Stephen Baker (Brenda) of Water Valley, Felix Shipp (Brenda) of Grenada; three daughters, Stephanie Prince (TJ) of Batesville, Wendy Hodge (Jeff) of Water Valley, Carla Thomas of Ecru; one loving sister, Shirley Dyer Griffin Hurst of Banner; as well as a “house full” of grand, and great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, “BB” was preceded in death by two grandsons, Stephen Leroy Baker, Jr. and Devin Alexander Shipp; and one brother, Clifton Leroy Dyer, Jr.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
