Arther Lee Smith age 86, of Water Valley, MS transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 30th after a brief illness. He was born January 26, 1937 in Panola County to Otis Smith and Zola Smith Price. Mr. Smith professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Kind Providence M. B. Church; now known as New Providence M.B. Church, where he was a faithful member until his health failed. Mr. Smith was known as a man with few words but lots of personality.
Arther was raised by his grandparents John and Dena Hawkins. He attended
Bynum Community School. He loved his family and held a special place for
children. His past time was rocking in his rocking chair and watching people.
Milkshakes were his favorite dessert. He became a resident of Water Valley
Nursing Home after the passing of his uncle/caretaker John Hawkins, where he
made lots of friends and became known as Pops.
He leaves to cherish his memory, One Sister, Betty Lark of Memphis,TN; One
Brother, James Price of Memphis,TN. Even though he had no biological children, he had cousins that took great care of him. His caretaker Mona Hawkins-Hervey. His cousins Patricia Reed, Calvin Hawkins, Levert Hawkins, Ray Hawkins, Perry Hawkins, Virginia Hawkins-Lewis, John Hawkins, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Otis Smith and Zola Smith
Price; His grandparents that raised him John and Dena Hawkins Sr.; Two sisters,
Mae Dean Turner, Patricia Price; Two brothers, Gale Smith and Nathaniel Price. A special uncle and aunt John and Earline Hawkins Jr, Aunts and uncles; Dollie and Mose Henderson, Delia and Raybon Jenkins whom all were instrumental in his life. Mr. Smith will be missed.
